Peter J. Ungaro, President and CEO, Cray, Inc.
 The scientific and research challenges of today rely on tighter and tighter integration of computation and data. But keeping ahead of the exploding demand for computational power and massive data is requiring renewed innovation, especially with the software and hardware challenges of efficiently utilizing this data. Developing an exascale solution, including exa-IO, that is meaningful to the HPC community is leading to significant changes in system architecture and a more holistic approach to supercomputing. This presentation will provide a perspective on the state of supercomputing and what impact it will have on the challenges facing the HPC community today and into the future. Peter Ungaro serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Cray Inc., a leader in the supercomputing marketplace. Prior to his appointment as President and CEO in 2005, Ungaro was the Senior Vice President responsible for sales, marketing and service. Ungaro was recently named CEO of the Year for 2006 by Seattle Business Monthly magazine for his leadership in turning around the company and one of the "40 under 40" by Corporate Leader Magazine in 2008. He has also been appointed to the Department of Commerce's Manufacturing Council. The Council advises the Secretary of Commerce on matters relating to the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector and government policies and programs that affect U.S. manufacturers. Before joining Cray in 2003, Ungaro served as Vice President of Sales for Worldwide Deep Computing, at IBM. In that role, he led global sales of all IBM server and storage products for high performance computing, life sciences, digital media and business intelligence markets. He held a variety of other sales leadership positions since joining IBM in 1991. Ungaro received a B.A. in business administration from Washington State University. |
