Gary T. Wright, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
 Gary will explain how the Church is implementing dual world-class digital preservation systems and building two unique digital archive facilities. One system ingests more than 300 million digital images each year to preserve the world’s largest collection of family history records. The other system preserves audiovisual files hundreds of gigabytes in size that are produced using the Church’s state-of-the-art digital audiovisual capabilities. Both digital archives are expected to exceed a capacity of 100 petabytes for a single copy within a decade. Mr. Wright will discuss in some detail the storage layer of each system and highlight the advanced technologies that are being used to continuously ensure data integrity of each archive. The presentation will close with a preview of the unique, state-of-the-art digital preservation vaults the Church is currently designing. Gary is Senior Product Manager of Digital Preservation at the Church History Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Prior to that, he held a similar position with FamilySearch. Gary earned a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado. Before joining FamilySearch, he directed enterprise storage business management, solution development, marketing, or professional services for prominent storage technology companies including IBM, StorageTek, McData, Compaq, and HP. Gary is also a published author of historical works, an award winning composer of classical music, and an accomplished violinist performing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. |
